Exploration Activities

There are practically no unexplored areas in the world where significant deposits of conventional oil are likely to be discovered. The objects of search today are complex geological structures located in remote regions with unfavorable climatic conditions. Tengri Oil develops its resource base by introducing modern technologies for obtaining and processing data on the structure of entire oil and gas basins and individual deposits

Exploration Activities

Finding new oil reservoirs, even with traditional means, is a challenging and expensive task. Exploration and error costs soar while working in unexplored, difficult-to-reach places. Prior to the start of field work, basin modeling allows for the elimination of a huge number of uncertainty. Basin modeling is the process of simulating the formation and change of geological layers over millions of years in order to determine when they first appeared, where they accumulated, and how hydrocarbons were redistributed. The processes of production and alteration of geological layers are reconstructed within the framework of this technology, using all known information about the geology of the region and mathematical and analytical procedures, making it possible to pinpoint the locations of hydrocarbon accumulation.

Tengri Oil conducts exploration activities in order to expand the resource base. Exploratory actions have consistently yielded excellent results thanks to advanced exploration techniques and the selection of the most promising regions based on study findings. Tengri Oil is working on a number of exploratory and experimental projects, as well as steps to build its own geophysical service. Field seismic modeling methods were established to give the finest monitoring systems for projects in the Orenburg area.

The Company takes a rigorous and complete approach to the exploration and development of its fields and license territories, from the collection and interpretation of seismic data through the building of dynamic field models for the placement of exploration and production wells. We use current geology and hydrodynamic modeling, as well as novel well drilling and completion techniques, to maximize the final recovery of hydrocarbons in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner. The success of exploration drilling has continued to increase as sophisticated technology for processing and interpreting seismic data has been applied step by step.

High-density electrical exploration

Due to their great efficiency and low cost of work, several electromagnetic technologies are widely utilized at all stages of prospecting, exploration, and exploitation of deposits. Modern electrical prospecting fits under the category of 3D technologies because of the great density of measurement points. For the first time in Russia, Tengri Oil tested controlled source electrical exploration (CSEM) on a continental asset in 2022 to locate and clarify the boundaries of the Bazhenov reservoir’s productive zone. Although this method is often utilized in offshore sectors, the company’s experts have been able to adapt it for onshore prospecting.

The approach is based on the fact that, when compared to water-saturated rocks, oil- and gas-bearing rocks have higher electrical resistance. Over 1100 surveillance sites were deployed across a 347-square-kilometer area. As a result, the experts were able to increase the quality of the overall projection of the Bazhenov formation’s productivity. It is expected to employ electrical exploration to deal with other hard-to-recover reserves after assessing the data gathered.
